Former NFL Player Faces Charges After Second DUI Arrest

|

Michael Seidman, 39, was recently charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated this past Friday, October 16th. The crash occurred in Thousand Oaks around 9:35 p.m. when the former football star lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Seidman was traveling northbound at a dangerously accelerated speed prior to the fatal collision. He came away with relatively moderate injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, Fred Rosenberg, 88, instead sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash. After emergency personnel arrived, they transported the elderly man to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Reports sadly state that Rosenberg succumbed to his injuries and died a few days later.

Authorities initially arrested Seidman on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing bodily harm. However, his charges increased once prosecutors were notified of the victim’s passing. According to court records, Seidman’s bail then went from $100,000 to $250,000. It is important to note that Seidman was also being prosecuted for an ongoing DUI case from 2019. He actually came out of jail not long before this fatal crash occurred. Because of this additional offense, Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Ramirez argued that his bail should be raised even more.

Deemed A Public Safety Risk

Consequently, Judge Derek Malan deemed Seidman as a public safety risk and gave the ruling to increase his bail. Judge Malan stated that “Because this is exactly what everybody is afraid of, how dangerous this is. It’s not Mr. Seidman who pays the ultimate price for that, in this case Mr. Rosenberg does.”

The defendant appeared in court on Tuesday to be arraigned on his current charges, but the hearing was postponed until November.
