Mother Involved in DUI Accident Leaves Young Son Critically Injured

|

In California, there are several punishment enhancements that can be added to a DUI charge to increase the penalties of drinking while driving. One DUI enhancement is having a minor under the age of 14 in the vehicle. Driving while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle can not only lead to a lengthened sentence but additional charges such as child neglect, child abuse, and child endangerment.

Sadly, on June 28th at approximately 1:30 a.m., a mother made the harmful decision to drive intoxicated with her 6-year-old son in Carmichael, CA.

The mother, identified as 26-year-old Gina Muniozguren, was driving at a dangerously accelerated speed in a Mercedes sedan when she lost control of her vehicle. As a result, she crashed head-on into a concrete wall. Unfortunately, her 6-year-old son was riding in the front passenger seat and suffered critical injuries from the impact of the collision.

Emergency personnel rushed him to the UC Davis Medical Center where he continued to fight for his life in critical condition.

Officers suspected Muniozguren was intoxicated and arrested her at the scene of the crime. However, because she sustained injuries, she was released and transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center for medical treatment.
