“DUI Fugitives” Found and Arrested

|

In Visalia, California, law enforcement is committed to tracking down DUI “fugitives.” Visalia police officers have stepped up efforts to find accused DUI offenders who have not shown up to court or attended mandatory alcohol recovery programs.

According to officials, some DUI offenders do not think that police have the time or resources to find them. On Sunday, January 21, those offenders deemed “high-risk” were visited by Visalia police. The officers brought arrest warrants and knocked on 45 doors, trying to track down DUI “fugitives.” Visalia officers arrested people who failed to show up for a court date or who violated their probation.

Sergeant Mike Verissimo stated, “The best bet for anyone with a missed DUI court date is to go to court on their own now. If you don’t, that warrant isn’t going away. We’re going to come find you.” The DUI offenders tracked down by police on Sunday could face jail time and high court fines.

Visalia police set out to find DUI offenders because they believe that these aggressive, high-visibility DUI warrant service details decrease DUI incidents.

45 warrants were distributed, and four arrests were made. In Visalia’s last DUI warrant detail in October 2017, 50 warrants were issued and four arrests were made.
