Holiday Motor Home Outfitted for Mobile DUI Processing

|

In Washington State, a mobile home has been adapted to process DUIs this holiday season. The Impaired Driving Section of the Washington State Patrol has commissioned this mobile home, known as a Mobile Impaired Driving Unit (MIDU), to hit the road beginning this Wednesday, November 22nd, until the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 25th.

MIDU is a 36-foot motor home that functions as a DUI processing center and incident command post. It is essentially a mobile, full-service police station. Among its features are two holding cells, three computer stations, an incident command computer terminal, three breath-test devices, a dispatcher device with wireless access to Washington State Patrol dispatch centers, and it has the capability to receive live broadcasts from Washington State Patrol aircraft. MIDU travels across Washington state when requested to support law enforcement efforts during DUI emphasis patrols or to emergency incidents like wild land fires or other natural disasters.

The holidays are a known high season for driving under the influence. Parties and celebrations are more common this time of year and often lead to more impaired drivers on the road. To prepare for the next few months, law enforcement is putting more state troopers and police officers on duty to reduce the risk and danger of DUIs. Stay safe this holiday season.
