Aaa Finds Drowsy Driving As Dangerous As Drunk Driving

|

I know I’ve written about this before, but apparently, it has become such an issue that the AAA conducted a new study which confirmed what I’ve previously written. Drowsy driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.

The AAA study found that drivers who only got five to six hours of sleep were twice as likely to be involved in an accident, drivers who only got four to five house of sleep were more than four times as likely to be involved in an accident, and drivers who got less than four hours of sleep were a whopping 12 times more likely to be involved in an accident.

These results confirm what federal regulators had been saying, namely that drowsy driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.

“Teenagers, older adults and people who have a sleep debt are among the highest risk groups,” said Jake Nelson, AAA’s director for traffic safety and advocacy and research. “One in five crashes where somebody dies in that crash involves a driver who was drowsy or hadn’t earned enough sleep the night before.”

AAA recommends at least seven hours of sleep to significantly reduce the risk for a sleep deprived accident. So make sure to get your seven hours plus and be sure to refrain from consuming alcohol before driving to safeguard yourself from a traffic collision his holiday season.
