Bus Driver Charged For Driving Bus Of Students While Drunk

|

Last week a Napa, California bus driver was arrested for driving a bus full of students while under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more.

The bus driver, Jaquida C. Parker, 24, told California Highway Patrol that she was attempting to make a U-turn when the bus, which contained 28 student passengers, became stuck on a narrow dirt road and blocked traffic.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman, Marc Renspurger, responding officers smelled alcohol on Parker’s breath and observed other signs of alcohol intoxication. Officers then had Parker perform field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed.

Parker submitted to a chemical breath test and was booked at the Napa County jail.

Parker is set to go before a judge next month.

In addition to the standard California DUI charges and penalties, Parker may face DUI child endangerment enhancements which could include mandatory jail time. As a bus driver, Parker also stands to lose her commercial for at least one year under the California Vehicle Code.
