Memorial Day Southern California DUI Arrests Up from Last Year

|

As the unofficial kickoff to summer, it came as no surprise that law enforcement would be cracking down on DUIs this past Memorial Day weekend. They certainly did and the California Highway Patrol has released its numbers.

Statewide, CHP made 1,111 arrests of alleged drunk drivers over the holiday weekend and nineteen people were killed in traffic collisions. This is down from the 1,133 DUI arrests that were made by CHP on Memorial Day weekend in 1013. Fifteen people lost their lives on California highways on Memorial Day weekend in 2013.

While the numbers were down statewide, 254 alleged drunk drivers were arrested in Los Angeles County between Friday and Monday during the holiday weekend. This is an increase from the 245 DUI arrests that were made during the same time in 2013. Of the nineteen fatal collisions, three occurred in Los Angeles County.

In Orange County, CHP officers arrested 62 people suspected of driving drunk. That’s up from the 11 DUI arrests that occurred during the same period last year. There were no fatal collisions were reported in Orange County.
