Nobody likes getting pulled over. Nobody likes getting arrested, especially for driving under the influence. While it may be one thing to fantasize about payback for the arresting officer, it’s a completely other thing to actually carry it out. However, that’s exactly what Amanda Engle did.
In April of 2013, Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Frank Rogers had arrested Engle, 29, of Erwin, Tennessee for driving under the influence. She subsequently pleaded guilty to the DUI charge and was sentenced to a two days in jail, placed on probation for one year, and fined $350.
One week after Engle’s guilty plea, an off-duty Rogers went to Pizza Hut to pick up dinner and noticed Engle, the restaurant’s manager, from the prior arrest.
“The defendant didn’t ask my name however rang up the order,” Rogers wrote in the official police report. “As the defendant removed the pizza from the oven I observed her cut her eyes and look at me. The defendant then leaned over the pizza that she had begun to slice and I observed her spit on the pizza which had been purchased by me.”
Rogers asked Engle if she knew who he was to which she replied that she did.
And for the second time in nine months, Engle was arrested by Deputy Rogers. This time she was charged with disorderly conduct.
Engle is currently out on a $500 bond and will appear in court on February 20th. She faces jail time for violating the probation of her DUI conviction.
Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley told the Johnson City Press that Engle’s action was in “retaliation” for the driving under the influence charge placed against her by Rogers in April. He commended Rogers for arresting Engle on the spot.
Needless to say, Engle’s DUI retaliation led to her firing at the Hut.
